Meeting new friends from home!
A few weekends ago, we hosted two boys who were playing in a basketball tournament from Dresden International School held at Sam and Joe’s school, the Bavarian International School. We had done this before for soccer games and is something that parents of school athletes are asked to do. Imagine our surprise when our guests turned out to be American boys, one from Austin, Texas and the other from California. All of the athletes we had hosted previously had been German or English. When we host athletes, we provide them a place to sleep, shower, and dinner, breakfast and a sack lunch for the next day. We always like to fix tacos on these nights so we can share a bit of our Texas culture with them. We usually have to tell them how to fix them and how to pick them up and eat them. We never have any food left over on these nights. When the American boys showed up, not only was I thrilled, but they were thrilled as well. This might have been their first trip with the school, and one of the boys said he was so nervous that he would end up at a house where it was strange or he didn’t like the food. He was so excited to have tacos! As it turned out, he was planning to return to the US when school is out (he’s a senior) and attend culinary school! I had so much fun talking to these boys. It was great to talk about Texas and food of course! I told them that if they came again for another sporting event, to ask to stay with us!
